I had my first Tibetan lesson with Rinpoche. I am SO grateful for this opportunity! We're studying a book together and I have to practice reading it and memorize the new vocab. In the mean time, I met a girl last Sunday at the temple who is also studying Tibetan. Her name is Kirsten. Today she picked me up and we went to "The Tibetan Embassy" (aka the Starbucks where all the Tibetans hang out, hehe). We went through an entire chapter of a Tibetan textbook that we both have. It was awesome! Then, we went to get lunch at the Tibetan Cafe, where the woman remembered me from last week and only spoke to us in Tibetan. After that, we met up with her Tibetan friend, Thubten, who answered some of our questions from the chapter. It was about 5 hours of studying that FLEW by. Awesome!
I rode my bike to Berkeley Bowl today. It's a popular grocery store in downtown Berkeley, about 10-15 min ride from my house. I love my bike! :)
My mom bought me a bed, so no more sleeping bag/cot- woohoo!!!
Tomorrow I'm going to try to get my CA drivers license.
In some ways I feel like I've lived here for a long time but it's only been just over a week. It's the same feeling I had when I was somewhere comfortable in India. My roomies are so incredibly kind and helpful.
Life is good!
