Giving blood, buried in books and my new friend Richard

Today is a blog entry in and of itself...forget the rest of this week!
Basically, I've been studying a particular buddhist text (Madhyamikavatara by Chandrakirta-2nd century, India) and studying the Tibetan alphabet (with audio tapes in my room...I'm actually surprised at how well I'm coming along). I've been doing meditation 3 times a day and eating at Deer Park...so nothing too interesting to report (although I'm very interested in all that I've been doing!)
Today 5 of us decided to walk to a monastery for a teaching. It's supposed to take about an hour, maybe an 1 1/2 hours...BUT we got lost. In the end we made it and had a great laugh, but I'm slightly ashamed to say...I totally had a crying meltdown (that only last about 2 min, but still...) I'm appalled that I'm actually writing this in my blog...let's just never talk about it again, okay?
It wasn't being lost that put me over the edge, it's the fact that my feet were covered in leaches...YES, I was dumb for wearing sandals, but the correct path was totally sandal appropriate! Anyways my feet were covered in blood (and reminents of mud) by the time I got there...along with our "guide's" feet (who also wore sandals). We bought antiseptic soap and rinsed off at the public tap, while a group of young monks watched and speculated about our bloody situation.
*Sigh* The "1 1/2" hour walk took us about 3 1/2.
After all that, I still ended up walking back (the correct way) instead of taking a taxi...it was beautiful and totally worth it.
(For the record, apparently celebrities are paying money for leach treatments...so we were joking about being on a "Adventure Purity Walk" that people would pay big money for...)
On another note, I have a new friend. His name is Richard. He lives in my bathroom (mostly at night)....okay, okay, he's a spider. A particularly large one, maybe 3 inches wide (his body is about 1/2 in. and he has long legs). He watches me wash my fash and brush my teeth every night, but we met in the shower. Anyways, I named him in order to alleviate the fear and panic I initially felt upon meeting him...we're old buds now and he's usually terrified and doesn't move when I turn on the light. I must confess, I do talk to him... :)
So off I am to my 6 pm dinner- I've got a strict schedule to keep...
LOVE

Dearest Darling Daughter,

You are not the first Boyd to encounter leaches. They live in the bayou, where we often swam, behind the Boyd-Nest camp in Marquette, Michigan. We learned at a very young age to always carry salt with us as once sprinkled with "the white Krytonite", the leaches dropped off!

Poor you but BRAVE YOU to walk so far and so long and then back again.

Granny N. just told Aunt Debbie and me about the big hairy spiders she grew up with in Florida. Her mother ("Cracker") protected them as they ate the resident flies and mosquitoes but your grandmother regularly flushed them down the toilet where they went to get a drink of water. I do not believe, however, that any of those spiders had names! Richard is a pretty grand name for a spider...:0)

Great blog entry, Baby Girl! Thanks for calling this morning. You sound so happy!

We love you, XOXO MOM and DAD

I had a leech on my foot once, it was horrifying.
And, I've had at least one crying break down from getting lost here in Japan (but it was really because it was my first day of school and I was scared that being late to work on my first day was going to get me fired... but also, I hate being lost).
And kudos to you for facing your fear of spiders. Good idea with the name. I think I'll try that sometime.

The Universe is a wonderful teacher, whether here or there, there seeming so far away but it's nearer then we think.
I have a leach now but it's just sucking knowledge so I have plenty to share. ;)

Enjoy Life and store good positive memories, they'll come in handy later. The not so good memoroes, lets learn from those while you are there.

Like daughter, like mother.

"Leaches" is spelled "leeches". I googled it after I saw someone else's comments posted.

Oops! Regardless how you spell it, they are DISGUSTING creatures!
