Mad for Momos

In Tibetan, the word, "Momo" means two things. One- Grandma, the other- dumpling. They aren't spelled the same way...btw...

Anyways...momos (the dumplings) are an important (& delicious) part of Tibetan cuisine that I regularly consumed in India. Mmmmm....

Saturday night I stayed with my friends, Kersten & Laxshay Zampo (who were housesitting for a friend who has a pool!) and we made momos. Now I can have these little dumplings of love anytime I want! Woohoo!

We made two kinds:
1. Spinich/cheese/onion
2. Tofu/squash/cabbage/onion

Both were phenomenal. We made the dough from scratch...well, Laxshay Zampo did...he's the Tibetan in the group, after all. They tried to show me how to mold them into little pods of yumminess, but mine looked severely misshapen. It's going to take some practice.

Here's what they should look like:
(Notice how the one in the top of the photo looks perfectly symmetrical)

Here's what mine look like:

Kersten said mine look like the "sorting hat" from Harry Potter (the talking hat that assigns the kids to their dormitories). HAHA. She kept saying, "You are Gryffindor." The vegetables should not be showing through or mixed into the dough...oops!

I'm inspired to try these on my own. Perhaps I will this weekend! Chris Matic is coming to visit with her son, Zack, and I'm hoping to FINALLY tour San Francisco. She also wants to go to Santa Cruz. Yay!

Those momos look amazing (despite the fact they are misshapen:-) Could you hook me up with the recipe? I'm dying to make veggie dumplings (I got addicted to pork dumplings in Japan but don't eat pork anymore!!!)
